Wine from and around Caldaro
Exclusive wine recommendations from “Das Badl”
Caldaro on the South Tyrolean Wine Route made its name originally as a wine village, especially for the “Kalterersee Auslese”. This wine, which is pressed from the Vernatsch vine, is cultivated on nearly half of the cultivated vineyards in Caldaro. But other classic types such as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet, Merlot and Lagrein also flourish in Caldaro.
At “Das Badl” we take you on a weekly basis into our rustic Gourmet Cellar to taste fine wines from the surrounding area. At this opportunity we will also let you in on the technical terminology of winemakers and wine stewards.
A small selection of our fine wines, which you can also take home!
A light, fruity wine made from the Vernatsch grape, the oldest indigenous red wine type in South Tyrol. Also popular is the home-grown special “Kalterersee Auslese” with its light to intense ruby-red and aroma of cherries, currants, almonds and delicate violets. Dry, smooth and of a robust structure at the same time.
Ideal with: pasta, smoked dishes and light main courses.

Gewürztraminer is one of the most sought-after wines in South Tyrol. It is a straw-colored to golden, aromatic, full-bodied white wine with a pleasant dry, slightly full-flavored aroma. Besides a spicy bouquet hints of carnations, roses and lychees are also noticeable.

Close to our hotel in Caldaro grows the Bronner grape, used for the “Julian” bio wine of the Lieselehof farm. Intensively golden in color, its fragrance is redolent of fruit blossoms, peaches, lychees and grapefruit. A full-bodied wine with good strength and very complex structure.
