The Wine Village in Caldaro on the Lake
Holidays in the South of South Tyrol
Caldaro is one of the best-known wine villages in South Tyrol. Here wine is a living culture, and farming is a traditional occupation where the vine is omnipresent. 300 sunny days per year allow the best vines to grow, from the well-known Vernatsch to Cabernet, Merlot, Lagrein and Pinot Noir, but also many white wines such as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon and Chardonnay. You can taste these wines either in our hotel or in one of the 18 wineries in Caldaro.
It is hardly surprising that the topic of wine can dominate your holiday in Caldaro. A variety of interesting experiences around vines, viniculture and wine are available.
Wine culture can be experienced along the Wine Trail, which leads in a figure-eight loop through the vineyards around Caldaro. Take care to observe the limestone-white sills on the ground, since they carry the historic names of the vineyard locations, the so-called Riegel names, such as Keil, Vial, Prunar, Puntara and Palurisch and Salt.
During your holidays in Caldaro also be sure to pay a visit the Wine Museum in the center of town. It will give you insights into the history of winemaking and transports you back in time.
