Caldaro on South Tyrols wine route is well known for the wine Kalterersee Auslese! The Kalterersee Auslese is a wine made from the Vernatsch vine which grows on almost half of all Caldaros wineyards.
You can find also more classic wine in Caldaro and surrounding, such as Weiß- and Blauburgunder, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet, Merlot and Lagrein.
Caldaros wine is avaiable at the main wine cellars and vinotheques or also at some wineyards and of course at the Badl Genusshotel!
Lake Caldaro – the warmest swimming lake in the alps
Lake Caldaro originates from an old riverbed of the river Adige. It’s one of the largest lakes in South Tyrol and its pleasant water temperature is one of its main characteristics. Already in spring the water temperature is about 17° to 19° and in summer it might rise up to pleasant 28 degrees. This lake is not only perfect for swimming, but also for rowing, sailing and windsurfing. Moreover lake Caldaro includes one of the largest wetlands between the Pianura Padana and the Alps: This is where you can find a fairytale-like landscape! Hikes to Leuchtenburg Castle or a walk round the lake are only some of the possibilities adults and children can enjoy at lake Caldaro.
Lake Caldaro is bedded in the middle of vineyards south of the village Caldaro, just beneath the ruins of Leuchtenburg. Both the wineyards and the lake shimmer in a beautiful and unique green coloring.
Caldaro – a village with nine hamlets
The village of Caldaro includes a total of nine hamlets and quarters: St. Josef am See, Markt (Zentrum), Unterplanitzing, Mitterdorf, Pfuss, Oberplanitzing, St. Anton, St. Nikolaus and Altenburg.
The toponomy is quite difficult to remember and to pronounce for foreginers so guests use to speak about Caldaro as a whole. That’s one of the reasons why Caldaro is one of the best known and most beautiful places in South Tyrol for holidays.
